HISTORY OF THE CHIJAVADZE FAMILY

Abstract

The article aims to provide readers with a historical essay about one of the oldest noble families, the Chijavadzes, from the 14th to the 19th centuries. Specifically, the article will offer insights into their origins and the rise of Chijavadze nobility within the context of Georgian history. Historical sources indicate that the activities of the Chijavadze feudal family began in Eastern Georgia and, by the latter half of the 15th century, shifted predominantly to Western Georgia, particularly Imereti. The article is supplemented by epigraphic material commissioned by the Chijavadzes and created in various churches.
